DESCRIPTION:Join artist and educator Alan Akaka at the Steel Guitar Symposi
 um as he shares the knowledge and experience that he’s acquired over his
  long career with Hawaiian music and the steel guitar.  The Hawaiian st
 eel guitar camp he’s led at Kāʻanapali\, Maui\, has been incredibly s
 uccessful over the past years\, and Alan is bringing this experience to N
 orthern California.\nIf you have some experience on the steel guitar and w
 ould like to take your playing to the next level\, join him for this 1-day
  only workshop. Learn new pieces and explore practice strategies. With the
  proper technique and know-how\, it can be an enjoyable way to spend time 
 making music by yourself or with friends. Learn how in this workshop!\n\n
 Alan will introduce the fundamentals of instrument technique and TAB readi
 ng for the beginner class. Students must bring a steel guitar and a mini a
 mp\, even if they don’t know how to play it.\n“The heart of improvisat

 um class. This class will cover basic technique (straight bar and forward 
 slants)\, palm blocking\, p-tahs\, production of better tone\, TAB reading
 .\n9:00-11 AM | $100\nSG Symposium Class\nPART 1\nMake your Hawaiian steel
  guitar sing\nThe steel guitar is known for its glissandos\, lilting voice
  and rich tones. Students will\nfocus on two songs and explore ideas for t
 ransforming notes into “music”.\nPART 2\nImagine feeling empowered and
  more confident at the next kani ka pila\nThe task of the steel guitarist
  is to lead the group into a song\, the next chord\, fills gaps\nbetween 
 music phrases and take off on an instrumental or pāʻani upon command. In
 \nPart 2 students will be introduced to background fills\, gain an unders
 tanding of when\nto execute them and develop skills for improvising melodi
 es.\n12:30-4:30 PM | $175\nStarter Class with Symposium-$225 (enrollment l
 imited to 20 students)\nPlease Note:\n\n 	 All songs and mp3 backing trac
 ks will be available to all paid registered students prior to the workshop
 .\n 	 Attendees need to bring a steel guitar\, portable amplifier\, and 
 music stand.\n 	 A limited number of loaners will be available on a firs
 t come first served basis (does not include bars and picks). Contact me t
 o reserve.\n 	 Bars\, picks and string sets will be available for purchas
 e.\n 	 Since you will be sitting for several hours it is recommended that
  you bring a seat cushion for your comfort.\n 	 There will be breaks duri
 ng each section and a lunch break between classes. Several restaurants and
  food services are near the hall. If you would like to bring your own food
