This is a one-day only workshop designed for beginners and/or existing steel guitarists who have some experience on the steel guitar and would like to take their playing to the next level by learning new pieces and exploring practice strategies.
The Starter Class will work on basic technique (straight bar, forward and reverse slants), blocking, p-tahs, production of better tone, TAB reading. In this class, the fundamentals of instrument technique and TAB reading will be introduced. Students simply need to bring a steel guitar and mini amp even if they don’t know how to play it.
9:00-11 AM | $100
The Symposium Class will work on pa‘ani and fills and how to develop your own background fills and pa‘ani melodies for songs ideal for jamming anywhere.
1:00-5:00 PM | $150
Both Classes–$225 (enrollment limited to 20 students)
The Kani Ka Pila jam session open to the public and using songs from the He Mele Aloha Book. A $5 donation will be charged to defer the cost of the hall.
6:00-8:00 PM | $5 per person donation for non-students to defer the cost of the hall
Please Note:
- All songs and mp3 backing tracks will be available to all paid registered students prior to the workshop.
- Attendees need to bring a steel guitar, portable amplifier, and music stand.
- A limited number of loaners will be available on a first come first served basis (does not include bars and picks). Contact me to reserve.
- Bars, picks and string sets will be available for purchase.
- Since you will be sitting for several hours it is recommended that you bring a seat cushion for your comfort.
- There will be breaks during each section and a lunch break between classes. Several restaurants and food services are near the hall. If you would like to bring your own food there is a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave on site.
